5 SCRIPTURES TO ASSIST YOU WITH DECISION MAKING
Lately, I’ve found myself inundated with some tough decisions to make. Regardless of the reason, some of the decisions may seem trivial to some, but the impact of even the most trivial decision may have a greater consequence than expected. Consequently, I’ve learned over the years the importance of seeking God’s guidance and direction when making decisions or choices.
I also believe as leaders, we are called to model biblical leadership. Pursuing God’s will and direction in our decision making creates a foundation for godly decision making, which influences those around us.
We are Called to be the Salt-Seasoning
Matthew 5:13 (MSG)
“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.”
Now, these words may seem a little harsh, so I’ll paraphrase: We are called to be the seasoning that brings forth God’s word. If we lose our saltiness (the seasoning) how will we share God’s word or influence others? If we no longer have a use, we can be tossed aside.
Isn’t this what we do with items that are no longer useful to us? We toss them aside, give them away or possibly throw them in the garbage? If we lose our saltiness, what good are we? As leaders, we are called to serve. When making decisions, there is more at stake than just the decision itself. We are serving God and influencing others. We are reflecting God through our leadership.
Will This Decision Glorify God?
I shared the importance of bringing God into our planning in last week’s blog post, I Know the Plans I Have for You, so let’s not hesitate to bring God into our decisions.
Below you’ll find relevant scripture that I find useful and reflect upon for decision making. These verses hold me accountable in my decision making as I evaluate my intentions and motivations behind my decisions or choices. To get to the truth, I ask myself, will this decision glorify God?
5 Scripture Verses to Assist You with Decision Making
1. God’s word allows us to gain understanding and wisdom, true biblical guidance.
Psalm 19:8 (ESV) “The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;”
2. We are to trust and seek God’s leading as we wait for His direction.
Psalm 143:8 (NLV) “Let me hear Your loving-kindness in the morning, for I trust in You. Teach me the way I should go for I lift up my soul to You.”
3. God directs the paths of those who place their trust in Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
4. Be sensitive to those who may be impacted by our decision.
Romans 14:19 (NLV) “Work for the things that make peace and help each other become stronger Christians.”
5. Seek wisdom from God. He is the source of true wisdom and knowledge.
James 1:5 (NLV) “If you do not have wisdom, ask God for it. He is always ready to give it to you and will never say you are wrong for asking.”
In all situations, take your requests to God in prayer. God seeks to supply what we lack so seek God’s direction in faith. It is my hope your decisions bring honor and glory to God!
