A SEASON OF SINGLENESS
Karina Labrador, a regular contributor to Robinality, shares her story on a season of singleness as a young woman seeking God’s purpose in her life. Karina’s prayer is for you to find your purpose as you navigate your season of singleness. I hope you find her words comforting. God uses each of us to share our stories to encourage one another and give hope. May you find encouragement and hope in Karina’s words.
A Season of Singleness
I want to speak the truth in love to you today. We simply don’t have time for fluff anymore. If you are in a season of singleness (like me) and you are struggling, this post is for you. God calls us (all the single women) to a higher standard. He wants more for us. He wants the best for us. What He does not want is for us to give our hearts away to a random guy because we are lonely, and in our loneliness seek a relationship to fill our void. The only man that can truly fill the void, the only man we really need in this life is Jesus. We are complete in Him. Karina N. Labrador Click To Tweet
“For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.” Psalm 107:9
We are Called to This Season for a Reason
Being single does not equal being incomplete, this falsehood is meant to distract you from God’s will for your life. If you are struggling with singleness, you are probably asking yourself why me? Why am I alone? I trust everything we go through in our lives has a purpose, and He has called us to a place of singleness for a reason. Some of those reasons could include: chasing everything and everyone but God, tangled in secret sin/addiction, a lack of preparation for a relationship or marriage, or trying to fill the loneliness with relationships instead of Jesus. Whatever the reason, trust in God. Trust in His plan. Trust in His purpose for your life.“Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8 Click To Tweet
4 Tips on Singleness
With these thoughts, I’d like to offer 4 tips on singleness to reflect upon when you’re feeling alone in your season:
- Singleness is a gift – 1 Corinthians 7:7, 25-27
- Learn to be fully devoted to God – 1 Corinthians 7:34
- Singleness is hard but good; marriage is good but hard – 1 Corinthians 7:28
- It is not permanent, we might be single but God is all we need – 1 Corinthians 7:29-32
Let’s Be Prepared!
I also encourage you to read through 1 Corinthians 7. Paul’s message is very clear on marriage and singleness. During this season one verse, in particular, stuck out to me, Proverbs 18:22 says “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” Notice how it says HE who finds a wife…not SHE who finds a husband. Also, in Genesis 2:18 “The Lord God said, it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a suitable helper for him”. A few verses down in Genesis 2:20-24, God puts Adam to sleep, takes one of his ribs, and uses the rib to create Eve. God created Eve for Adam. God prepared Adam for Eve’s arrival and He is preparing us. God desires for us to be in a relationship when we are ready. In our time of waiting, we must prepare.
Ladies, we are the “suitable helpers, ” and we are called to serve in our seasons. Let’s be prepared since at any moment we may be called into a relationship. His time. His way.
It is my prayer the 4 tips and scripture will help you prepare for a relationship while you are in your season of singleness as you grow into the woman God has created you to be!
